“The Amount of Cargo Handled at Ports Decreased by 10.9% in February.”

In February 2023, the amount of cargo handled at the ports decreased by 10.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 37 million 994 thousand 576 tons.

According to the “Load Statistics” data of the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, in the January-February period of 2023, the amount of cargo handled at the ports decreased by 7.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 81 million 909 thousand 654 tons.

The statement said:

“In February 2023, the amount of loading for export at our ports decreased by 22.2% compared to the same month of the previous year and was 8 million 950 thousand 650 tons, while the amount of unloading for import purposes decreased by 5.3% compared to the same month of the previous year and was 18 million 601 thousand 228. In February, foreign trade shipments decreased by 11.5% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 27 million 551 thousand 878 tons.

Transit freight shipments decreased by 9.2%

In February 2023, transit cargo shipments made by sea at our ports decreased by 9.2% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 5 million 642 thousand 936 tons. In February, the amount of cargo carried in cabotage decreased by 9.2% compared to the same month of the previous year, with 4 million 799 thousand 762 tons.

The most cargo handling took place in the administrative borders of Aliağa Port Authority.

In February 2023, a total of 6 million 365 thousand 870 tons of cargo was handled at the port facilities operating within the administrative borders of Aliağa Regional Port Authority. 5 million 595 thousand 998 tons (87.9%) of the cargo handled at the administrative borders of Aliağa Regional Port Authority is foreign trade cargo, 741 thousand 145 tons (11.6%) cabotage cargo and 28 thousand 727 tons (0%). 5) consists of transit loads. Aliağa Regional Port Authority was followed by Kocaeli Regional Port Authority with 6 million 33 thousand 89 tons and Ceyhan Regional Port Authority with 5 million 284 thousand 342 tons.

In February, cargo handling was carried out at the port facilities operating within the administrative borders of 37 port authorities. A total of 31 million 839 thousand 209 tons of cargo was handled in the top 10 ports with the highest amount of cargo handling, and this constitutes 83.8% of the total cargo handled at our ports.

The highest increase was in feldspar load.

In February 2023, 546 thousand 280 tons of Feldspar was handled at our ports. Feldspar was the cargo type with the highest increase in handling quantities (87.1% increase) compared to the previous month, with an increase of 254 thousand 245 tons. This cargo type was followed by Scrap Iron with an increase of 224 thousand 56 tons and Urea Fertilizer with an increase of 156 thousand 311 tons, respectively. Hard coal (not briquetted), on the other hand, was the type of cargo whose handling amount decreased the most, with a decrease of 1 million 541 thousand 432 tons. This type of cargo was followed by cargoes carried in 40-size containers with a decrease of 963 thousand 400 tons and Coke and Semi-Coke Coal with a decrease of 632 thousand 597 tons, respectively.

Portland cement was the most exported type of cargo by sea.

In February 2023, portland cement cargo type ranked first with 685 thousand 275 tons of export cargo handled at our ports. Portland cement load types were followed by feldspar with 544 thousand 220 tons and clinker with 350 thousand 769 tons, respectively.

LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) was the most imported cargo type by sea.

In February 2023, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) cargo type ranked first with 1 million 965 thousand 5 tons of import cargo handled at our ports. This was followed by crude oil with 1 million 695 thousand 857 tons and scrap iron cargo types with 1 million 520 thousand 603 tons, respectively.

Italy was the country with the most exports.

In February 2023, the highest amount of cargo handling in exports by sea was realized in transports to Italy with 1 million 60 thousand 179 tons. Italy was followed by shipments to America with 822 thousand 827 tons and to Spain with 676 thousand 845 tons, respectively. 256 thousand 929 tons (24.2%) of the cargo going to Italy was transported by Turkish flagged ships, and 803 thousand 250 tons (75.8%) by foreign flagged ships.
