According to the announcement made by Telegram, one of the most popular messaging applications, Tether (USDT) can be sent via the application from now on.

Tether (USDT) can be sent in chat via Telegram

Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin by market capitalization, has been added to the “@wallet bot” on Telegram. According to the information provided, this bot will expand the cryptocurrency trading feature in the messaging application.

Integrating crypto payments into messaging apps like Telegram, making sending cryptocurrencies in theory as easy as sending a text or photo, would be a hugely positive development for mainstream adoption.

Last April, Bitcoin (BTC) and Toncoin (TON) were added to @wallet’s marketplace, and TON is also set to be sent within chats.

Stablecoins like USDT offer many of the advantages of other cryptocurrencies, but without the price volatility that often threatens the likes of Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The messaging app’s cryptocurrency journey goes back a few years, when it developed the Open Network (TON) blockchain project. However, this project was abandoned in 2020 due to legal battles with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

But TON has been kept alive by community members who call themselves the TON Foundation and continue to push the project forward.

Although Telegram is not directly involved in TON, it continues its interest in the network, which it set an example by establishing the blockchain-based auction platform Fragment late last year.
